A white mask, a Stetson and distorted pop - Milo Korbenski performs in Budapest for the first time

A mysterious white mask, a Stetson hat and a unique musical world in which lo-fi art-pop, dream-pop and the raw sound of distorted indie meet catchy melodies. Milo Korbenski will perform in Hungary for the first time on 28 October; the Brighton-based musician will present his melancholic and surreal musical universe at the Dürer Kert Small Hall.

It is difficult to describe Korbenski’s music in terms of a single genre: instantly catchy choruses are complemented by electronic elements, distorted vocals and unexpected musical twists. Whilst influences ranging from Kurt Vile to the Cocteau Twins, Black Sabbath and The xx can be detected, he has nevertheless developed a distinctive, unmistakable sound.

The air of mystery does not end with the music. Korbenski consistently appears in public wearing a faceless white mask, a Stetson hat and a denim jacket. Behind this persona lies a prolific, largely self-taught artist who, for much of his career, has written and recorded his own songs, whilst also designing the visual aesthetic of his releases himself.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Korbenski’s second studio album, Sex Angel, released in 2025, perhaps offers the best introduction to his musical world. According to the musician, the album is about ‘positive realisations’: those moments when, after a difficult period, light finally appears at the end of the tunnel. Yet even his optimism is not unclouded: the light-heartedness is accompanied by melancholy, surreal imagery and a touch of darkness.

Sex Angel is at once nostalgic and contemporary, playful and slightly damaged - this is well illustrated by Ratworm, which pairs its lively melody with a bizarre visual world and fragmented vocals, whilst Bedrock, with its floating synths and vocals blurred by effects, creates a far more melancholic, unsettling atmosphere.

On stage from behind a mask

Live, Korbenski’s music reveals a new side - even if the performer himself continues to carefully conceal his own. Wearing his trademark white mask and Stetson hat, he takes to the stage with a changing line-up of musicians. His concerts are just as unpredictable as his songs: subdued, intimate moments can easily turn into noisy outbursts, yet the controlled chaos is held together throughout by a strong sense of melody.
